Skylar has made it to 4 pounds 5 ounces!

In the last week or so there hasn't been a lot of changes. Skylar is still on the CPAP and learning to breathe on her own. The nurses moved her from a incubater to a crib because she was holding her own temperature. She is getting to be a big girl, out growing her premie clothes, and getting chubby arms and cheeks. She is soo cute! I haven't seen her for a few days because I have had a cold, but she has been spending quality time with her daddy! Skylar loves to be held now and she enjoys having her little butt patted, it calms her down. We hope she will keep moving right along and get off the CPAP and onto the nasal canula. Skylar had another head ultrasound this week and the bleed in her head did get a little bigger, so the doctors will follow up again in 2 weeks. If it continues to get worse they may have to drain it, but they are hopeful it will resolve itself. Ryan and I pray she may continue to keep going and get home soon. It is hard not having her home with us, but we know she is still a month early from her due date and her lungs still need some more time to get stronger.

Skylar is 4 pounds 1 ounce!!!

Skylar is so amazing! She has reached 4 lbs and we are thrilled! It is hard to put into words the feelings that Ryan and I have. Our daughter continues to conquer all the trials that come her way. She is doing very well on the CPAP and we hope that she will be on the nasal canula soon. There was a tiny bit of bad news and that was her head ultrasound came back with a small bleed. The doctors do no seem to be worried and believe it is resolved already. They will do a check up on Monday to make sure it hasnt gotten worse.  Otherwise, she continues to eat very well, obviously because she is 4 pounds now and so far no infections or illnesses. We are truly blessed parents, Skylar is a perfect little baby girl and we love her very much! Below are some recent pictures of us holding her and the grandmas got their turn too!

Skylar finally loves to be held

Skylar is having a couple of remarkable days!

I have to say again, what a little fighter Skylar is! Because she managed to pull her intubation tube out 3 times last week, the nurses and doctors finally decided to leave the breathing tube out and put her on the CPAP. She is doing so good! Skylar is doing a lot more work breathing, but she is building new muscles. Being off the vent is allowing her little lungs to heal because the vent had scarred her lungs pretty bad. Ryan and I also got to hear her voice for the first time on Sunday. She let out a little cry and it was beautiful, though sad because she was crying, but it was so nice to hear her. We also got to hold her, not skin to skin, but more like a baby where she was wrapped up in a blanket. Skylar loves her binky and she is learning to suck very quickly. She is up to 30 ml of food and tolerating it very well! These last few days have been awesome, our little girl is growing and improving more and more. We just pray that she may keep it up and keep on fighting so she can come home soon! Here are some pics below of her on the CPAP. It may look awful, but it is one step forward in the right direction.

Skylar will be 34 weeks gestation tomorrow !

Skylar has been doing pretty good the last few days. There hasn't been a lot of changes. The doctors are trying to wean her off the ventalator by bringing the pressure support down. Somedays are better than others and she gets tired so the rates have to go back up. Ryan and I are discovering it is a long process and it just may take her awhile to get off the ventalator and get her breathing tube out. The doctor reminds me to look at her progress for the week instead of every day. The ups and downs of Skylar's life in the NICU are a very real thing, one day she is really good and the next she is very tired and struggling and needs more oxygen support. Ryan and I try to remind eachother of the good things that Skylar is doing for example she is tolerating her feeds and gaining weight, so far her eye exams have all come back normal and the rest of her little organs are developing normally. The prayers of so many loved ones have truly worked and Skylar is a little miracle that continues to fight all the time. We wouldn't be able to do all this without the love and support of so many family members and friends, thank you. Ryan and I will continue to keep you updated and cross your fingers everyone, that she may get off this ventalator soon!

Happy New Year Muffin!

Skylar has been doing pretty good. Shes had a rough couple weeks with her lungs but she is still progressing. The doctors think she might be here past her due date...like March or maybe even later unfortunately. She is still fighting strong though...and has plenty of personality. I love it when she sucks on her "binky"! Its very cute. She makes the funniest face when I first put it in her mouth....she gets this cute little curious look on her face...eyebrows scrunched down, eyes looking at me saying. "What did you give me Daddy?" It is so much fun getting to know my new little daughter. Jourdan calls her, "little muffin"
